Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds Review: Still the Noise-Cancelling Earbuds to Beat?

Bose built its reputation on silence, and the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds still set the bar for in-ear noise cancellation. Add a clever spatial-audio mode and a secure fit, and they remain a top pick in 2026 - with a few honest caveats.

If you ask people which company first comes to mind for blocking out the world, most still say Bose. The QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds are the product that keeps that reputation intact. Years after launch they remain one of the easiest earbuds to recommend to anyone whose main priority is silence on a plane, a train or an open-plan office, and the 2026 software updates have only sharpened what was already a strong package.

Noise cancellation that still leads

This is where the Ultra Earbuds justify their price. The active noise cancellation is among the most effective you can buy in a true-wireless design, flattening the low drone of engines and air conditioning so thoroughly that you forget it was there until you switch the mode off. Just as important, the transparency mode sounds natural rather than hollow, so you can hold a quick conversation or hear a boarding call without yanking a bud out. Bose also lets you save custom blends of cancellation and transparency, which is genuinely useful once you find your preferred balance.

Sound, spatial audio and fit

Out of the box the tuning is warm and easy to listen to, with controlled bass and clear vocals, and the companion app offers an EQ if you want more bite. The headline extra is Bose Immersive Audio, a spatial mode that pushes the soundstage out in front of you instead of sitting inside your head. It will not replace a good pair of speakers, but for podcasts and live recordings it adds a pleasant sense of space. Fit is a strength too: the stability bands lock the buds in place, so they stay put on a run or a commute without the constant readjusting that plagues rounder designs.

Battery, calls and the catches

Battery life lands around the average for the category rather than leading it, and switching on Immersive Audio noticeably shortens a charge, so heavy users will lean on the case through a long day. Call quality is good in quiet rooms but only adequate in wind or busy streets, where rivals from Apple and Samsung pull ahead. The first edition also skipped wireless charging on its standard case, an odd omission at this price, though later bundles and the newer revision address it. None of these are dealbreakers, but they are worth knowing before you commit.

Who should buy them

Buy the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds if noise cancellation and a secure, comfortable fit sit at the top of your list and you are happy to pay a premium for them. Frequent flyers, commuters and anyone working in a loud environment will get the most out of what Bose does best. If you want the longest battery life, the cleanest hands-free calls or the tightest phone-brand integration, an Apple or Samsung alternative may suit you better. For pure quiet, though, these are still the earbuds the rest of the market is chasing.
